What is Niche Quitte? Quite the puzzle!
Niche Quitte is a publication, a fanzine and a love letter to music, art and poetry, all rolled into one. It is first and foremost a music blog. However, rather than concentrating its focus on one band, musical genre or even era, Niche Quitte wraps its virtual arms around every style, decade and flavor of music. While N.Q. loves to discover new, up and coming, or unrecognized talent, it also embraces the tried and true.
I started this publication in 2013 as a way to celebrate an idea, an ethos- removing the often 'precious' nature of cultural journalism- the elitist, rarified attitude which embodies many other arts magazines, let alone the art world in general. Niche Quitte celebrates the notion of the Outsider as a viable artist, musician, or painter of words. I have a simple, but ambitious desire to shepherd in a new cultural movement, a revolution, if you will. I believe so passionately in the arts that I have spent my life championing its necessity to our survival, and strongly believe that there should be a place for every artist, of every variety, and that every artist deserves to earn a living from their time and talents. Yet, we treat our arts and entertainment industries like a fluff piece, a luxury. I maintain that without the arts, our world as we know it would simply cease to exist. Therefore, I write from the perspective of being a fan and an artist, who is endlessly fascinated and inspired by my fellow creative souls. By celebrating and promoting my fellow creators, I hope that the favor will one day be returned, though I don’t expect it. I do this because it’s what I love: I will only review and promote what I genuinely enjoy- I have no time for drama, or for smearing other artists, by giving out nasty reviews. If I don’t like it, I don’t follow or review it, period. There’s so much variety in the arts- so much more than the mainstream powers that be would like us to believe- that there is something for everyone's tastes. But I personally don't like everything, so that’s why I give a platform to only the artists that I feel possess the talent to achieve great things, or who already have, and deserve to be celebrated, in my opinion.
I hope that you will join me in starting a cultural revolution, tipping the scales back towards freedom of expression, activism through art, rebelling against cultural norms, one post at a time. I am always looking for new voices and new ideas, so drop me a line if you'd like to contribute to Niche Quitte, or just share your views: [email protected]. I'm looking for those who have a compelling story to tell, or a great, new artist that the world should hear about, I don't care if you've been published before, or not. I don't need to see writing samples or a cv, just a well written, entertaining piece of poetry, a good story about meeting your favorite band, or an original masterpiece.
